SWEDEN-MALAYSIA INNOVATION DAY PLANNED FOR NEXT MONTH
KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysians can look forward to
interesting events related to innovation during Sweden-Malaysia Innovation Day
scheduled for May 6 to 10.
Speaking at a press conference at the embassy here, Sweden’s Ambassador to
Malaysia, Per-Arne Hjelmborn, said that among the planned events would be the
Swedish-Malaysia Nobel Gala Dinner here on May 6.
The Gala Dinner, to be attended by, among others, former prime minister
Mahathir Mohamad, will feature world-class entertainment and an exclusive
music performance by the up-and-coming Swedish band, The Harvest, and the
thrilling Malaysian duo, Frank Scott Hew and Syafinaz Selamat.
Additionally, he said that there would be an Innovation Forum, with
distinguished Swedish and Malaysian speakers on innovation and creativity,
including Malaysian astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor.
"We hope to promote a unique platform for additional cooperation in music,
aerospace and business and foster new ideas," he said.
Also, Hjelmborn said that the programme includes a two-day Innovation
Exhibition (May 9-10) comprising a display of cartoons on the theme innovation
from well-known Malaysian and Swedish cartoonists.
Further, an exhibition of innovative products from Swedish companies and
workshops will be held, as well as other activities for students.
Another interesting feature will be the FEYST11, a festival for Malaysian
youth on music, games and fun with a Swedish touch, expected to attract over
30,000 youngsters.
FEYST is a stepping stone for gamers to participate in DreamHack, the
world's largest computer gaming festival and Electronic Sports World Cup.
The ambassador said that despite its small size, with some nine million
people, Sweden is repeatedly ranked among the most innovative countries in the
world and, during the four-day event, Malaysia would be able to learn about
Sweden’s success in innovation.
