Osama could have come for treatment: former ISI chief
Islamabad (PTI) - Former ISI (Pakistan's
intelligence agency) chief Hamid Gul Monday said he was
"surprised" that Osama Bin Laden was staying in Abbottabad in
Pakistan as it was widely believed that the al-Qaeda chief was
hiding in the country's tribal belt.
"Quite surprised because he (bin Laden) was never
placed here in this part of Pakistan. They were always
claiming that he was in some area which adjoined the
Afghanistan border but not inside Pakistan," Gul told a TV
channel.
He added he has doubts about the "whole thing" because
CIA can make anything look like it is true.
"CIA has a way of creating such situations and
choreographing such dramatic events. Probably, he had come for
treatment or something like that, thats my hunch," he said.
He said government figures have been saying that the
operation was done in coordination with Pakistan intelligence.
"So if Pakistan intelligence was harbouring him then
why would they coordinate with the American intelligence," he
asked.
