Turkish premier: Turkey's attitude regarding Libya is completely humanitarian

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 03.05.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey's attitude regarding Libya was completely humanitarian.
We have been very sensitive towards Libya from the very beginning, Erdogan told a press conference in Istanbul on Tuesday.
Noting that Turkey was interested in humanitarian dimension in Libya unlike some other countries which were interested in oil wells in that country, Erdogan said that Libya's social and political structure was important for the region.
Our attitude regarding Libya was not show-off and did not aim at gaining interest or influence, he added.
Noting that some countries initiated a smear campaign against Turkey in Libya, Erdogan said that Turkey did not lose its calmness, and it followed a stable and consistent policy.
In mid-February, an uprising began against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi after the long-time leaders of neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt were toppled. Gaddafi has ruled Libya for more than 40 years.
The USA, the United Kingdom and France have launched an air strike against Gaddafi's forces to enforce a UN resolution imposing a ban on all flights in Libyan airspace, excluding aid flights, and authorises member states to "take all necessary measures" to "protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack".
In April, a Turkish ferryboat and military cargo plane brought to Turkey hundreds of people who were injured in clashes between Gaddafi forces and the opposition.
