ROSMAH CALLS ON WOMEN CORPORATE LEADERS TO PRESENT THEIR COMPANIES WELL TO INVESTORS

From Zuriati Zulmi

ISTANBUL, May 4 (Bernama) -- Women corporate leaders must present their
companies well to investors and ensure that good practices and governance are
adhered to in order to see a higher value for their companies in the share
market, said Malaysian prime minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Rosmah made this call in her speech at the Istanbul Stock Exchange here
today where she had been given the honour of ringing the opening bell for the
market.

She said women were already playing an important role in the stock market
and contributed much in terms of economic progress in their respective
countries.

"As leaders of corporations, women need to engage in the stock exchange
because investors' perception and assessment of companies are reflected through
stock prices," she said.

In Malaysia, women have contributed for the growth of the stock market and
have made it more dynamic with their roles as owners or top managers of stock
broking companies, stock traders or remisiers, fund managers, market analysts as
well as regulators.

As entrepreneurs, a number of women had also established their
stock-broking companies during the early phase of the Malaysian stock market
development and they have since built successful businesses and have become key
market movers, she said.

Currently, women account for about a third or 32 per cent of commissioned
remisiers in the Malaysian stock exchange, Bursa Malaysia.

"Many of the highly regarded analysts who make good assessments on stocks
are women. Women also hold key positions as regulators of the capital market,"
she added.

Rosmah also called on women to sharpen their skills and enhance
their knowledge especially in this era of globalisation and digital age.

This is becoming more urgent as stock exchanges across the globe are
more integrated and what happens in one corner of the world affects others
profoundly, she said.

In her speech, Rosmah also urged Turkish and Malaysian women engaged in
their respective stock exchanges to collaborate and work together to increase
their role and contribute to the economic growth of their countries.

Rosmah rang the opening bell of the Istanbul Stock Exchange at 9.30am local
time(2.30pm Malaysian time) today. She also gave a short interview to the
Turkish Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Istanbul Stock Exchange Huseyin Erkan agreed that
there were many ways of enhancing cooperation between Malaysian and Turkish
women.

"We already have a very good relationship with the Kuala Lumpur stock
exchange," he said, adding that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been
sealed between the regulators of the two stock exchanges.

Rosmah is on a three-day visit to Turkey in conjunction with the Global
Summit of Women 2011 which will be held here from May 5-7.
