10 LECTURERS FROM AL-AZHAR TO SERVE IN MALAYSIA



KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- A total of 10 lecturers from the Al-Azhar
University in Egypt will teach in Malaysia to help improve the teaching and
learning of "tahfiz" in the country.

Malaysian Islamic Development (Jakim) director-general, Othman Mustapha,
said the lecturers were experts in the field of "Qiraat", Arabic, "Fiqh" and
"Dakwah".

Seven of the lecturers would be sent to Darul Quran, two people to religious
schools administered by the Federal territory Islamic Religious Council ((MAIWP)
and the other to the Maahad Tahfiz in Pahang, he said in a statement here
Friday.

The Al-Azhar University had offered to send its lecturers following a
meeting between its Grand Sheikh, Prof Dr Sheikh Ahmed Tayyeib and Minister in
the Prime Minister's Department, Jamil Khir Baharom, in Egypt last year.
