Turkish mobile operator becomes offical business partner of Spanish football club

BARCELONA (A.A)  - 08.05.2011 - Turkish mobile operator Avea has become the official telecommunications business partner of Spain's famous football club FC Barcelona.
As part of the cooperation, Avea subscribers will have access to FCB products, FCB-themed mobile contents,special tariffs and GSM services, as well as tickets for the team's matches and jerseys signed by the club's famous footballers. 
Avea will also assume a civil society project within the framework of its cooperation with FC Barcelona. Accordingly, primary school students to be chosen from Turkey will be trained at FCB's facilities by the Spanish team's trainers.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Barcelona's Camp Nou Stadium to mark the cooperation, Avea's CEO Erkan Akdemir said his company provided remarkable resources for football clubs, adding that football had a 15 percent share in Avea's advertisement budget.
Pointing to Avea's sponsorship agreements with numerous Turkish football clubs, Akdemir said his company desired to carry such business model to abroad, and within such framework, decided to cooperate with FC Barcelona.
Manel Arroyo i Perez, FCB's board member responsible for media and sponsorship, said in his part that sports had the power to unite countries.
Noting that his club was excited about the projects involving Turkish youngsters, Perez said FCB attached importance to seeing the players it had trained on the game field rather than winning cups and tournaments.
Established in 2004, Avea is the third biggest GSM operator in Turkey behind Turkcell and Britain-based Vodafone. The company employs 2,592 people. Having roaming agreements with 617 operators in 199 countries, the company continues to expand its roaming partnerships.
FC Barcelona is a football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The team, which was founded in 1899, is one of the most successful clubs in European football and among the richest football clubs in the world in terms of revenue.
