Turkish foreign minister releases a message to mark Europe Day

ANKARA (A.A) - 09.05.2011 - Turkey's determination regarding its EU bid would continue to be a priority of Turkish foreign policy, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday.
Davutoglu released a message to mark Europe Day, May 9.
"It is a great success to see peace, stability, law and democracy in a continent where the most bloody wars in the history of world had occurred," he said in his message.
Davutoglu said that despite some difficulties from time to time, Turkey's will and determination to be a full member of the EU was more powerful now than ever before, stating that Turkish nation always backed universal values such as democracy, human rights and rule of law.
A great progress in Turkish economy and important developments in several areas in Turkey in the recent years showed that Turkey would bring several values to the EU, he said.
Davutoglu said that Turkey's membership would bring a new vision to the EU and make the EU a global power.
"I believe that our EU partners will make good use of this opportunity," he said.
On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union. Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union. Europe Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and peoples of the Union closer to one another.
