QSA President: Authorities Working to Develop Road Map for NDS Implementation

Doha, May 09 (QNA) - HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, President of Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) and Director-General of the General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP), said that authorities concerned with the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2011 - 2016, which was launched last March, are working to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the strategy based on a schedule that determines outputs and results.
This came in a speech at the opening of a workshop on Human Development Approach and Measurement in GCC member states being organized by QSA and the UAE UNDP office and the Human Development Report Office (HDRO) for government representatives and statistical offices.
The GCC Regional Workshop on Human Development Concepts and Measures provides an overview of human development concepts and methodologies to apply human development analysis at the country level, notably through national HDR development, and to measurements of human development both at the global and national level.
Drawing from HDR2010, existing literature, and good practices in the Arab States and in other regions, participants will be invited to identify the most appropriate approach to develop sound NHDRs and to adapt the new indices to suit national contexts. The workshop will emphasize need for harmonized formats and methods for statistics generation and analysis in the GCC to reduce discrepancies in key statistical indicators, such as labor participation, the lack of gender-disaggregated data and, generally, micro data at the household level.
