AIRASIA LAUNCHES 'TO JAPAN WITH LOVE' CAMPAIGN

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- AirAsia Bhd, together with its affiliates AirAsia X, AirAsia Indonesia and AirAsia Thailand, Tuesday launched a year-long inter-regional campaign aimed at helping Japan get back on its feet.

The "To Japan with Love" campaign is a gesture of support and solidarity to the people affected by the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami and the ensuing nuclear disaster that affected North Japan recently.

"Last year, the entire group carried around 28 million guests and is expected to carry more this year.

"AirAsia hopes to raise US$1 million for the people of Japan and expects guests to come together to contribute to this worthwhile cause," the Malaysian low cost carrier said in a statement.

All donations collected from the campaign will be handed over to Japan Platform, a consortium of 32 Japanese NGOs at the forefront of recovery efforts in northeastern Japan.

Throughout the campaign, special donation boxes will be made available on all of AirAsia, AirAsia X, AirAsia Indonesia and AirAsia Thailand flights for guests to donate towards this cause.

AirAsia will also sell 5,000 special themed limited edition wristbands onboard all its short and long-haul flights across its entire network to raise more funds for Japan. These wristbands will be available for RM10 a piece.

In conjunction with the launch of the aid campaign, AirAsia X is offering promotional all-in fares to Tokyo from as low as RM199 one-way for economy seats and from RM1,569 one-way for premium seats. (US$1=RM3)

The promotional fares are available for booking from May 10 to 22 for travel from June 1, 2011 to Feb 29, 2012. AirAsia X has three weekly flights between Tokyo (Haneda) and Kuala Lumpur.
