Interpol Official Praises Iran for Strong Campaign against Terrorism

TEHRAN, May 10 (FNA)- Head of Interpol's Field Investigation Department Colonel Makhtoum thanked Iran for its effective efforts and pioneering role in the campaign against terrorism.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has been a front runner in fighting terrorism on the international scene," Makhtoum said in a meeting in Qom city, Central Iran.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is an old member of the International Criminal Police Organization and based on the existing records in the Interpol, Tehran's Interpol was established in 1938," he added.

"This indicates that Iranians have always been willing to interact with the world to fight terrorism."

Interpol Secretary-General Ronald K. Noble had also earlier lauded Tehran's Interpol department as one of the most important bases of the International Police that is always ready to help and cooperate with other countries.

"Tehran's Interpol is one of the most important centers of Interpol which has always announced its preparedness to cooperate with the other countries," Noble said, addressing a meeting of Interpol directors of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states here in Tehran in June.

Also in July, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar reiterated that the country is prepared to increase its cooperation with Interpol in areas of campaign against drug trafficking, organized crimes and money laundering.
