Nasir Mahmood

Karachi, May 10, 2011 (Pakistan Observer): The Sindh High Court on Monday revoked the life term of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) leaders Afaq Ahmed and Amir Khan, and ordered their release on bail.

A lower court had awarded life term to the MQM-H leaders in a murder case. A case was registered by Landhi Police against Afaq Ahmad and Amir Khan in 1998. They were

allegedly involved in the murder of Farooq Ahmad who was brother of MQM provincial minister Haroon Siddiqui.

Additional District and Session Judge East Ubaid Ahmad Khan had sentenced both of the accused to life imprisonment with fine. In the last hearing, Sindh High Court had rejected government’s request to shift the hearing to the Shariat Court. The court suspended the sentence of both the accused and directed government to release them if there were no other cases against them.
