KDCA CULTURAL VILLAGE LATEST TOURISM PRODUCT IN SABAH
PENAMPANG (Sabah, Malaysia), May 12 (Bernama) -- The highlights of the Sabah Harvest Festival or Pesta Kaamatan on May 30 and 31 will have an additional interesting feature in the form of the KDCA (Kadazandusun Cultural Association) Cultural Village at the festival site, Hongkod Koisaan, near here.
The KDCA Cultural Village will be promoted as a tourism product or package after the traditional houses here have been renovated and upgraded.
Deputy Chief Minister and KDCA president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan when launching the Cultural Village today, said the effort would not only help preserve Sabah's ethnic culture but also to incorporate the unique culture into economic activities, particularly tourism.
"The Hongkod Koisaan has a big potential like other areas, but which has not been fully exploited.
"I wish to congratulate the organising committee, especially Richard Bainon, who is KDCA deputy president and chairman of the committee overseeing the additional development at Hongkod Koisaan for this effort," he said.
There are several traditional houses at Hongkod Koisaan, which is the location for the closing of the Kaamatan Month each year, but with the launching of the KDCA Cultural Village, new facilities have been added and existing ones upgraded, so that the village can be promoted as an attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
The new features include an arch at the entrance of the Cultural Village, hanging bridge, pond, stage and handicraft souvenir shop.
KDCA and Tombituon Enterprise had jointly established KDCA Cultural Village Sdn Bhd to manage the Cultural Village.
Richard who heads the joint-venture company, said due to time constraint, the traditional homes would be upgraded after the Kaamatan celebration ended.
After that, the company will be able to offer activities or tourism products like traditional cuisine, cultural performances and handicraft-making demonstrations so as to continuously attract visitors and not only during Kaamatan and other festivals.
