PM NAJIB TO VISIT QATAR ON MAY 14-15

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak will begin a two-day visit to Qatar from Saturday.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said Najib, who will be making his first official visit to the Gulf nation, would have an audience with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and meet his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani.

The prime minister will be accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, several cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

"The visit will provide an excellent opportunity for the prime minister and his Qatari counterpart to renew their friendship and exchange views on issues of mutual interest," said Anifah in a Foreign Ministry statement.

"This would further enhance the existing excellent bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Qatar," he added.

Najib is scheduled to have dinner with Malaysians residing in Qatar and have individual meetings with Malaysian businessmen as well as Qatari investors organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (Mida), respectively.

The statement said Malaysia and Qatar enjoyed warm and friendly relations.

Total trade between the two countries in 2010 amounted to RM1,299.30 million (US$368.1 milion), compared to RM3,068.45 million (US$871.7 milion) the previous
