PM NAJIB INVITED TO HAVE AUDIENCE WITH EMIR OF QATAR
DOHA, May 14 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is due here for a two-day visit from Saturday, has been invited to have an audience with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Khalifa Al-Thani, the Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar, Ahmad Jazri Mohd Johar, said.
Najib has also been invited to meet his counterpart Sheikh Hamad Jassim Jabr Al-Thani, he added.
He said that the recognition accorded to Najib was special because not all foreign dignitaries were able to meet both the Emir and the prime minister at their residence.
Speaking to Malaysian journalists here, he said Najib and wife
Rosmah Mansor would also be hosted to a dinner by Qatar prime minister and his wife.
Only four of them would be at the dinner, he said.
"This is an honour for Malaysia and a good sign because both leaders will be able to discuss more closely about plans which both countries intend to implement," he said.
Najib and wife are expected to arrive here at 4pm Saturday (9pm Malaysian time). This is the Najib's first visit to this Emirate since becoming the prime minister in 2009.
Ahmad Jazri said the visit would pave the way for both countries to enhance trade relations apart from giving the corporate sectors of both sides an avenue to interact and discuss possible collaborations.
"We want to make use of this opportunity to take the existing ties to greater heights for the benefit of both countries," he said, adding that Qatar government welcomes Malaysian investors.
There are about 3,000 Malaysians working with Malaysian companies in various sectors in the country, particularly oil and gas, and infrastructure, he said.
"Malaysia and Qatar have excellent political relations and both countries often concurred with each other's views on many international issues, particularly those concerning the Middle East.
"Now it's up to the investors to take advantage of the excellent ties to enhance investment or to collaborate in projects in third countries," he said.
