BANDA ACEH IMMIGRATION TO DEPORT MALAYSIAN NGO MEMBER

JAKARTA, May 14 (Bernama) -- The immigration authorities in Banda Aceh have taken the decision to deport a Malaysian woman who is a member of a non-governmental organisation that is engaged in development work in Aceh province.

Banda Aceh immigration head Agus Widjaja told local journalists Friday that the 37-year-old woman, although having received approval from the federal authorities to do the work, was found to be in violation of her social visit pass.

The woman was reported to have been quizzed for about five hours at the Banda Aceh immigration office Thursday.

According to the report, she had been engaged in a project run by Aceh (EDFF)– Action Aid Australia in the province since eight months ago.

Prior to this, the Banda Aceh immigration office had similarly deported two US nationals who were working in the Aceh province on social visit passes.
