CHINA TO SPEND 4 BLN YUAN BUILDING 'JOURNEY TO THE WEST' THEME PARK

SHENZHEN, May 14 (Bernama)-- China is spending four billion Yuan building a large amusement park based on the Chinese legend "Journey to the West", which is best known for its monkey king character, local Guangzhou Daily newspapers reported.

Wang Jianhua, the Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said, the project was scheduled for ground breaking in July, and it was expected to be completed within two years.

The park covers an area of 1500 acres, located at Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, the origin of "Journey to the West" as well as the monkey king 'Sun Wukong',Wang said in a briefing of investment here Friday.

"Journey to the West" is one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, which tells the legend about the Buddhist monk, Xuanzang's pilgrimage to India during the Tang Dynasty.

Wang said the park would combine advanced technology with Chinese legends, to create a fantastic wonderland with the spirit of Chinese culture and fun.

The authorities would also launch direct flights from Hong Kong and Japan to Lianyungang in the future, he added.
