FM Reiterates Iran's Global Clout

TEHRAN, May 15 (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi underlined the country's political power, and said Tehran plays a key role in regional and international developments.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is viewed as a developed country in international political interactions," Salehi told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of an exhibition here in Tehran on Saturday, and added, "This role might upset certain countries, but it is a reality."
He stressed Iran's increased might and power in different fields after the Islamic Revolution, and said, "Other countries should treat us like a developed country in political interactions since we are contributing a (major) role."
In relevant remarks, a senior Iranian legislator on Friday underlined the country's military might, and said the Islamic Republic is in its best shape and standing at the heights of political power as well.
Iranian Parliament's Vice Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said the Islamic Republic has curbed America's militaristic efforts in the Middle East.
"The Islamic Republic, relying on its scientific capacities and its position in the Islamic World...has stopped the US military machine in the region (Middle East)," Aboutorabi-Fard said, addressing a gathering in the Northwestern Iranian city of Zanjan.
He praised the Islamic Republic as a major political and military power in the Middle East and Asia, and stressed the need for the country to turn into an economic powerhouse as well.
"Iran's cultural and scientific status in the world and the country's great capacities in the fields of energy, agriculture and mining provide a fertile ground to transform it into an economic power," Aboutorabi-Fard concluded.
