IMMIGRATION DEPT CANNOT REJECT ENTRY OF AFRICANS WITH VALID TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) - The Malaysian Immigration Department cannot
reject the entry of African nationals into the country if they have valid travel
documents, its director-general, Alias Ahmad said.
He said that for as long as the Africans in the country did not do anything
that could jeopardise public order, the department regarded their arrival in the
country as with good intention.
However, to ensure no untoward incidents among Africans in Malaysia,
especially those who came to pursue studies in the country, Alias called for
cooperation from institutions of higher learning and the Higher Education
Ministry to hold briefings on the culture of the Malaysian society to foreign
students.
"I hope the colleges will also monitor the movement of their foreign
students, like those who do not attend classes, and inform the Higher Education
Ministry for follow-up action," he said in an interview for the "Kerusi Panas"
(Hot Seat) programme produced by Bernama Radio24 recently.
He said that last year, the operation permits of five colleges were revoked
after they were found to have failed to monitor the movement of their foreign
students.
