Senior MP: Israel Deeply Fearful of Anti-Zionism Demonstrations
TEHRAN, May 16 (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator said Israel's fear for the consequences of the regional revolutions and growing global hatred for Zionism has pushed the regime to embark on a reckless massacre of the Palestinian demonstrators in border areas of Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and West Bank on Sunday.
"The Zionist regime's fear for regional revolutions and anti-Zionism rallies throughout the world was the reason behind the massacre of the Palestinians on (the anniversary of) the Nakba Day," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Avaz Heidarpour told FNA on Monday.
The lawmaker further condemned the brutal killing of the Palestinian civilians in the Sunday demonstrations and the silence shown by the so-called advocates of human rights on the crime, and said the international inaction and indifference is worse and more worrying than the massacre itself.
Israel on Sunday killed eight and wounded several hundred Palestinian demonstrators during the Nakba Day or "day of the catastrophe" demonstrations.
In the Gaza Strip, Israeli military forces shot dead one Palestinian and injured ten others as thousands of Palestinians staged protests to mark the anniversary of "Nakba Day."
In Palestine, youths clashed with Israeli troops in the city of al-Khalil as heavy clashes broke out across the West Bank while Palestinians mourned on the Nakba Day.
Israeli troops fired tank shells near protest march in Gaza and killed a 17-year-old Palestinian and wounded ten others.
In another incident, five Palestinians were also injured in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli forces on Qalandia checkpoint between Ramallah and al-Quds.
Also, the Israeli soldiers opened fire on civilian protestors across the border in Lebanon and killed four.
According to Lebanese security officials, protesters were approaching the border with Israel, but did not mean to cross the border.
The security officials said there were injuries as well.
The unrest came as the Palestinians marked the "Nakba (Catastrophe) Day", marking the Zionist invasion of Palestine on May 15, 1948, which led to the massacre and displacement of millions of the Palestinians to this day.
The Israeli soldiers wiped nearly 500 Palestinian villages and towns off the map during the offensive, leaving the Palestinian refugees dreaming of an eventual return to their homeland more than six decades later.
