Iran Urges Implementation of Security Agreements with Pakistan

TEHRAN, May 16 (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Ali Abdollahi in a meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik underlined full implementation of security agreements between the two countries.
During the meeting in Islamabad on Sunday, the two sides also stressed their resolve and determination to fight terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, organized crimes and practice tighter control over their shared borders.

Also it was decided that a meeting of Iran-Pakistan Security Commission be held in Tehran in the near future to be headed by the deputies of the two countries' interior ministers.

Iran and Pakistan have in recent years increased their bilateral ties and mutual cooperation in different fields, and officials of both countries have repeatedly underlined that these bonds of friendship and brotherhood, based on commonality of interests, shared traditions, common faith and Islamic heritage, are destined to grow stronger in the years ahead to the mutual benefit of the two nations.

The two countries' nations are deeply keen to further strengthen their bilateral ties in all fields. These relations have been marked by frequent high-level consultations between the leadership of the two countries.

Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Farooq Hamid Naik paid a several day visit to Iran earlier this month. During the trip, the Pakistani chief legislator met with several high-ranking Iranian officials, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili and Foreign Minister Salehi.

Naik underlined his country's willingness to strengthen ties and cooperation with Iran.

"The two nations enjoy abundant religious, cultural and historical commonalities and should work to reinvigorate these common points," Naik said.

He further stressed his country's resolve to maintain good neighborly relations with Iran, and added that the Pakistani government and its President, Asif Ali Zardari, have repeatedly stressed that promotion of ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran sets a priority for Islamabad.
