MUSLIMS WILL NOT KEEP QUIET WHEN ISLAM IS INSULTED -MINISTER

BAGAN DATOH (Malaysia), Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Action by four Islamic bodies in lodging police reports against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin of Malaysia Today is proof that Muslims will not remain quiet when insults are hurled at Islam.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the move to lodge the police reports as appropriate.

"Stern action must be taken against those who insult and belittle Islam to prevent others from doing the same," he said at a buka puasa function at the Al-Ghazali Mosque in this northern town Friday night.

The four Islamic bodies which lodged the police reports were the Malaysian
Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia Foundation
(YADIM), Federal Territory Islamic Council (MAIWP) and the Federal Territory
Islamic Department (JAWI).

The police reports were over the aticle written by Raja Petra entitled "I
Promise to be a Good, Non-hypocritical Muslim" and comments on the article "Not
All Arabs Are Descendants of the Prophet" which had insulted Prophet Muhammad
and Muslims.
