Iran Reiterates Readiness to Help Iraq Development
TEHRAN,May 18 (FNA)- A senior Iranian commerce ministry official said Tehran is ready to aid Baghdad with Iraq's reconstruction and development, specially in the country's Kurdistan Region.
Speaking in a meeting with the governor-general of Iraq's Northern Erbil province on Tuesday, visiting Iranian Deputy Commerce Minister Haid Safdel reminded Iran's rich experience in reconstruction and development after the 1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war under the former Iraqi Dictator, Saddam Hossein.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran's different progresses and advancements in areas of industries, mining, agriculture, science, research and engineering are eye-catching," he reminded.
"At present the Islamic Republic of Iran is becoming a major science hub in the region and we are witnessing new achievements in our country on a daily basis," the deputy minister mentioned.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to export technical and engineering services to the Iraqi Kurdistan, specially in grounds of road, power plant and dam construction as well as power transfer lines," he explained.
The Iraqi governor-general, for his part, hailed the Iranian offer, and said the two countries' cultural and historical commonalities can serve as a good foundation for Iran-Iraq cooperation in area of development.
"The Kurdistan Regional Government is indebted to the aids and supports of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the development of this region and always appreciates Iran's supports for the reconstruction and development of the Kurdistan region," he reiterated.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in the expansion of their ties, in economic fields in particular.
The Iranian government and private investors have expressed major interest in taking the numerous investment opportunities existing in Iraq, given the profound cultural, historical and religious bonds existing between the two neighboring nations.
