Volume export of Lao garment products unchanged
VIENTIANE,MAY.(KPL) - The volume export of Lao garment products to Japan is expected to reach the same level, amounting to US$8 million each year, despite Japan suffering from natural disaster impact.
The figure compared to the last year’s volume export, according to the president of the Lao Garment Industry Association, Mr. Onsy Boutsivongsack.
He has said that investment in garment business of Japanese entrepreneurs in the Lao PDR for export to Japan market has seen it constantly sustain however Japan has been devastated by earthquake.
There are five garment factories in Laos, are operated by Japanese businessman to continue producing and expanding their production bases that is expected this year their volume export to Japanese market to achieve US$8 million, according to Mr. Onsy’s estimation of estimated recently.
This year, Laos has planned to produce and export garments to overseas with a total amount of US$200 million after reviving global economy.
Last year’s volume export of garment was lower than expected target of US$200 million, which the EU was a main garment market of Laos, representing 81 percent, amounting to US$140 million, followed by the United States of America 11 per cent, (US$20 million), Canada 4 per cent and Japan 3 per cent.
