Iran Blames Bullying Powers for Food Crisis in World

TEHRAN,May 18 (FNA)- Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi blamed the expansionist and unilateral policies of the bullying powers for the existing food crisis in certain world countries.
"We should search for the root-cause of this food crisis and insecurity of food supplies in the expansionist and unilateral policies of the big powers and also the economic paradigms and trade mechanisms that they have promoted," Rahimi said, addressing participants in the second meeting of the agriculture ministers of the Eight Developing Islamic Countries (D8) here in Tehran on Wednesday.

He further called on all members of the D8 to resolve their differences and find new arenas for expanding their cooperation in a move to overcome the problem and ascertain security of food supplies in their countries.

"The D8 member countries can play a role in accelerating and facilitating establishment of durable food security through cooperation and empathy and by providing proper opportunities and services," Rahimi added.

Agriculture ministers of Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey are participating in the three-day meeting.

The D8, which kicked of official work on June 15, 1997, is a grouping of 8 developing Islamic countries. Its objectives are to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living
