Switzerland helps develop Laos’s sustainable tourism development

VIENTIANE.MAY.(KPL) - The government of Switzerland has provided US4.04 million (32 billion kip) to Laos to support the sustainable development of tourism, clean products and exports.
An agreement on the assistance was signed in Vientiane on Monday, May 16 between the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Ms Khemmani Pholsena and Swiss Ambassador to Laos, Mr Christoph Burgener.
The Switzerland assistance will help strengthen the competitiveness of Laos’s tourism industry and ecotourism, promote the production of handicraft products, particularly silk products, and organic agriculture as well as the export of clean products to the regional and international markets and create more job opportunities for the Lao people.
The project will be implemented over the next three years from 2011 to 2014 by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s Trade Promotion and Production Department in cooperation with the UN Inter Agency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity.
Laos has plenty development potentials of exports of organic agriculture products due to the abundance of fertile land and water resources.
