MALAYSIAN THALASSAEMIA FEDERATION RE-ELECTED AS TIF BOARD MEMBER



KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) -- Federation of Malaysian Thalassaemia
Societies (FMTS) President Ramli Mohd Yunus has been re-elected as a Board
Member of the Thalassemia International Federation (TIF) for a four-year term.

He was elected during the 12th International Conference on Thalassemia and
the 14th TIF International Conference for Patients and Parents held in Antalya,
Turkey from May 11 to May 14.

FMTS in a statement Friday said Ramli was elected from 26 candidates by 57
voting member countries during the event which is held every four year.

TIF has 103 associations as general members all over the world.

Among prominent personalities elected to the Board this time are a member of
the Royal Family in Dubai, Sheikha Sheikha Bint Seif Al Nahyan, Former first
lady of Lebanon Mouna Haraoui and the daughter of Ayatollah Rafsanjani Fatemeh
Hashemi Rafsanjani, it said.

The statement said, the Board also re-elected Panos Englezos from Cyprus
as President and Shoba Tuli from Inda as the Vice President.

Ramli who is from Kedah has been the President for FMTS since 2002.

"FMTS is a non-profit organisation for the welfare of the Thalassaemia
community in Malaysia," it said.
