DPM: DO NOT DOUBT HALAL STATUS OF 1MALAYSIA UHT MILK

BALING (Malaysia), May 20 (Bernama) -- The public should not doubt the halal
status of the 1Malaysia UHT milk as it adheres to the halal certification
standards set by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim), said
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the milk imported from South Korea had Jakim halal certificate,
besides the certificate from the exporting country.

Muhyiddin said the milk supplied to schools was insufficient, hence part of
it had to be imported.

"However, the public need not worry as Jakim had before this, issued an
order to the supplying company to acquite a halal certificate for the milk
before it could be supplied to Malaysia," he said after officially opening the
Baling/Sik District Education Office in Pulai, here, Friday.

He was earlier asked to comment on the claim by Shaharol Niza Omar, chairman
of the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubur Panjang in Pendang
recently that the milk did not have Jakim's halal logo.
