Iran Calls for ECO Members' Collective Cooperation against Corruption

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of Iran's General Inspectorate Office demanded the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to take collective action against corruption, money laundering and organized crime.
Speaking in a meeting with a delegation from Tajikistan's Monetary Inspections and Anti-Corruption Campaign Agency, Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi stressed the need for the regional states to strengthen campaign against corruption
"The issue of campaign against corruption, money laundering, and organized crimes is a matter in need of greater cooperation among the regional countries," he said
He further described economic strength as an aftermath of effective campaign against corruption, and reiterated, "Campaign against corruption is a major demand of the nations."
Referring to the 1st gathering of the ECO member countries' heads of organs in charge of campaign against corruption, he reiterated, "Convening of this conference has provided a good opportunity for the regional countries to establish an appropriate apparatus which would serve as the basis for multilateral cooperation, and eventually, boost economic cooperation among the ECO member countries."
"Expansion and growth of underground and secret activities is among the major challenges blocking the path for sound economic activities," Pour-Mohammadi continued.
He further expressed the hope that a headquarters for ECO member countries' campaign against corruption would be established, announcing Iran's readiness to be the host for that center.
