Iran Ready to Boost Energy Ties with Pakistan

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian diplomat asked for enhanced energy ties and cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad.
Speaking at a panel discussion titled "Pakistan-Iran Relations in the context of Emerging Regional and Global Scenario", Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mashaallah Shakeri hailed Tehran-Islamabad cordial and friendly relations, and reminded the history of Iran-Pakistan ties dates back to the earliest days after Pakistan's independence.

The diplomat said that no other two countries in the world, like Iran and Pakistan, have so many fields and potential for mutual cooperation.

He said given their common history, religion, language and traditions, Iran and Pakistan can assume greater position in the region as well as in the Muslim world.

The Ambassador said that Pakistan currently is confronting security and economic challenges.

He said that Iran can help Pakistan in overcoming its energy crisis and infrastructure building. "We can help Pakistan in building large dams", he said.

"We should not supply fish to Pakistan but to teach them how to fish", he believed.

The envoy said that any delay in Iran-Pakistan energy cooperation would certainly harm Pakistan's industries.

"None of Pakistan's neighbors except Iran can meet its energy demands", he pointed out.
