Regional Uprisings Intensifying Washington's Concerns for Israel

TEHRAN (FNA)- Regional revolutions and the growing global hatred for Zionism have made Americans deeply worried about Israel's interests in the region, said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast.
"The Zionist regime's interests in the region is the most important source of concern for the Americans at present," Mehman-Parast said during a TV interview on Saturday night, stressing that Washington fears that regional uprisings and Islamic Awakening come to jeopardize Israel's interests.
"Americans want to protect Israel's interests at any cost. Hence, they speak of compromise plans and raise other arguments in a bid to become able to resolve the deeply rooted Palestinian issue in one way or another," he added.
"Americans have always declared that the interests of the US and the Zionist regime are interwoven, therefore, when they show superficial changes in their policies, people find out the reality," the Iranian spokesman added.
His remarks came after US President Barack Obama on a televised speech on Thursday warned Palestinians that they would not gain independence by denying the Israeli regime the "right to exist," claiming that efforts to "de-legitimize Israel" would fail.
Obama also called on Israel to pull back to the borders that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, calling those lines militarily "indefensible."
The US had previously endorsed the concept of a Palestinian state, but not the demand for permanent pre-1967 borders, with mutually agreed land swaps.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly rejected President Obama's call and claimed that such a withdrawal would jeopardize Israel's security and leave major West Bank settlements outside Israeli borders.
