DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ON HILLY AREAS WILL NOT BE STOPPED
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Development on hilly areas in the city will not be stopped as along as the landowners and developers observe the technical guidelines on such development, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
He said the guidelines issued last year were based on best practices on development on hilly areas adopted by various countries including Hong Kong and had proven to be effective.
"We at not saying the guidelines are foolproof but if the stakeholders adhere to these and with monitoring by the authorities like Kuala Lumnpur City Hall, the risks are minimised," he told reporters after opening Bukit Bandaraya's community centre in Jalan Medang Tanduk, Damansara here Sunday.
He was asked on the status of development in hilly areas in Kuala Lumpur in the wake of the landslide tragedy at the Hidayah Madrasah Al-Taqwa orphanage in Hulu Langat Saturday which claimed 16 lives, mainly children.
