MALAYSIA CALLS FOR FAIR SELECTION OF NEW IMF CHIEF

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia joined other developing countries in calling for an open, transparent and fair selection process in the appointment of a new Managing Director for the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Malaysia is of the view that the post should be filled by a candidate who would represent the growing role of developing countries in the global economy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anifah Aman said Monday.

He said this would also be in line with calls towards reforming the IMF and at the same time allow the views of the developing countries be taken on board in a meaningful manner.

News report said that the Washington-based fund plans to complete its search for a managing director by June 30 to replace Dominque Strauss-Kahn who has since resigned.
