New Details Emerge about Disbanded CIA Network

TEHRAN (FNA)- Sources privy to the Iranian Intelligence Ministry on Monday released more details about the sophisticated US spy network that Iran identified and disbanded in recent days.
An informed source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told FNA that the network's main goal was "inciting social discontent" among the Iranians in a move to spark seditious moves against the Islamic establishment.
Earlier reports said that Iran has arrested 30 spies and identified 42 CIA field officers and operatives during the operation, and the source said that the spies intended to stage sabotage operations in nuclear and communication facilities and installations, air and defense industries, shipping facilities, airports, Iran's power grid and facilities, oil and gas networks and the stock market as well as other infrastructures.
The source further noted that the CIA spy network picked those people for its spying goals who had access to the country's data and information or those who were able to establish links with high-ranking officials of the country.
The source also said that the network had established some major cells in Turkey, the UAE and Malaysia to collect information from Iranian expatriates and travelers.
He added that after a series of measures the Iranian intelligence forces could fool and mislead the CIA ranking officers in these three countries and could extract useful information from these officers about their planned moves in the region.
Yesterday, Iran's Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi said his ministry could identify and disband the CIA spy network through public cooperation.
Moslehi said that the suspicious activities carried out by the spies had drawn the attention of their colleagues in the governmental bodies and even caused suspicion among the other people outside these organizations.
"The government employees and the people outside these governmental bodies grew suspicious of the actions taken by these spies who wanted to gather sensitive information," he said.
"Hence, their cooperation resulted in their arrests," the minister continued.
The Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced on Saturday that it had identified and disbanded a large US spy network with tens of centers, cells and nodes in different world countries, adding that it has arrested 30 spies during the operation.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Intelligence Ministry said it could disband a "complex sabotage and espionage network affiliated to the US spy agency (CIA) following a series of extensive intelligence and counter-espionage measures and operations inside and outside Iran".
