Former FM: West Desperately Attempting to Confront Regional Uprisings

TEHRAN (FNA)- Former Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki lashed out at the West's contradictory positions on the regional uprisings and revolutions, and described the western attempts to confront the regional nations as "desperate".
"West is desperate to find a way to confront the uprisings of the regional people," Mottaki said on Monday, addressing a number of students here in Tehran.
He reiterated that the West is perplexed by the developments in the region, and pointed out that adopting different, and even sometimes, contradictory positions on these events indicates this bewilderment.
"Taking a look at these positions, one can find out that they have not understood the issue and although they have mobilized all their power, they do not know how to confront it," Mottaki added.
Political observers believe that people's uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, Jordan, Yemen and Libya are the result of growing "Islamic awakening" in the Middle-Eastern countries.
Observers also believe that the recent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Jordan are the result of the United States' double-standards in the Middle-East and its biased policies against the different nations.
People in the Middle-East now believe that the western approach to the ongoing revolutions in these countries has unveiled the true nature of the West's stance on democracy.
