BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT NETWORKS MUST PREPARE FOR MIGRATION TO NEW INTERNET PROTOCOL
KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Business and government networks must be
prepared with trained personnel on board to ensure a smooth migration
from the current Internet Protocol (IP) version 4 (IPv4) to the new IPv6.
The Director of the National Advanced IPv6 Centre, Professor Dr Sureswaran
Ramadass emphasised that it is now more imperative that Malaysian organisations
take necessary measures to be IPv6 compliant.
"This is because, the Internet Numbers Authority has already allocated the
last IP address blocks from the global IPv4 central address pool," he said.
He was speaking at a media briefing here Wednesday for the IPv6 2011
Regional Conference.
The conference from July 19-21 at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel includes a
two-day workshop and is geared to drive businesses and government
agencies in the region to take steps to migrate from the IPv4 to IPv6.
"We are aiming for 500 participants for the conference, not just from
locally, but worldwide," Sureswaran said.
Malaysia is a pioneer in the IPv6 movement and Universiti Sains
Malaysia (USM) through the National IPv6 Centre, is playing a key role in
training IPv6 network engineers throughout the world.
Currently, about 3,000 engineers globally, have been trained in
Malaysia on the IPv6. Of this number, 1,000 are Malaysians. The aim is to train
1,000 engineers annually.
