Senior Hezbollah Member Questions Goals behind Feltman's Visit to Lebanon

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior member of the Hezbollah political council warned of the underlying goals of the visit to Beirut by US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, and said Feltman actually aims to hinder formation of the new Lebanese government during the trip.
"The US has been blatantly interfering in Lebanon's affairs since 2004 and is pressuring secular groups and streams to form a new government," Khezr Noureddin told FNA.

"Washington does not want those come to power who oppose the US and Israel's hegemony, who enjoy the support of the Army, and who fully defend the rights of the Lebanese and Arab nations in the occupied territories," he added.

Noureddin also underlined that Feltman's visit to Beirut would increase problems for the Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati, who is facing the tough challenge of forming the new Lebanese government.

Mikati was appointed on Jan 25 to form a new Cabinet, after March 8 ministers resigned from Prime Minister Saad Hariri's Cabinet, forcing its collapse.

Mikati began a new round of consultations this week with in an attempt to break the four-month-long stalemate. But chances are slim given the differences between Mikati and Free Patriotic Movement Leader Michel Aoun over the distribution of portfolios in a 30-member Cabinet make-up.
