Noor Dubai TV presenters highlight plight of blind people
Dubai, Sep.8, 2008(WAM) - In a move to sensitise audience about the plight of people with visual impairments, the presenters of Noor Dubai TV yesterday folded their faces for the first 10 minutes of each programme.
The move echoes the Noor Dubai initiative which was launched on the personal initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai with the aim of curing one million people with visual impairments.
The initiative is called Noor Dubai, which means light in Arabic, with the long term objective of "a world free of blindness".
The initiative aims to assist these people with medication and help in maintaining their vision. It follows on from the success of Dubai Cares which targeted one million children, but ended up reaching more than four million.
