FOREIGN MINISTRY UPDATES ADVICE ON TRAVEL TO JAPAN

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Foreign Ministry no longer advises Malaysians against non-essential travel to Japan, saying the situation there has improved.

However, Malaysians are still advised to defer non-essential travels to areas in the northeast of the country which are still experiencing the adverse effects of the deadly earthquake and tsunami which hit the area on March 11.

In a statement, the ministry also advised Malaysians not to go within 80km radius of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

"(They should) strictly observe the exclusion zone in the Fukushima
prefecture that have been imposed by the government of Japan as off-limit areas to the public," it said.

They are also advised to register with the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo at +81-3-34763840 and email at maltokyo@kln.gov.my.
