DOCUMENTATION TO ENABLE RACHEL CORRIE TO DOCK BEING PROCESSED
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Foreign Ministry through the Malaysian Embassy in Egypt is currently working to complete the documentation process to enable the humanitarian aid vessel, the Spirit of Rachel Corrie, to dock at Port of Al Arish, after being granted approval on Monday.
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said they were working together with Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt.
"The humanitarian aid will be unloaded and expected to be handed over to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to be sent to Gaza," he said in a statement here Wednesday night.
He said Egypt Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Nabil Al Arabi had agreed to look into the matter and hoped that all parties concerned would cooperate in resolving the situation amicably.
Anifah said the decision was conveyed in his meeting with Dr Nabil on the sidelines of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, Wednesday.
He said Dr Nabil also requested the parties concerned not to resort to any unnecessary action that could further aggravate the situation.
Anifah said the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo and its officials at the Port of Al Arish would continue to assist the 12 volunteers and crew onboard the ship.
