"SMART COMMUNITY" MUST CONTINUE TO NURTURE AN INFORMED SOCIETY
KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), May 26 (Bernama) -- The Information Department's Komuniti Bestari (Smart Community) programme plays an important role in disseminating accurate information and assisting in nurturing an informed society, former Information director-general Abdullah Morad said.
He urged the department staff to further strengthen the programme, which is now known as the 1Malaysia Community, especially at the grassroots level.
"The staff are our agents at the grassroots level," he said at a farewell dinner held in honour of his service here last night.
Abdullah, who was instrumental in spearheading the programme, hoped it would achieve its objective.
State Information Department Director Almain Ajirul and heads of other departments and agencies under the Information Communication and Culture Ministry were also present.
Apart from nurturing an informed society, the programme is also aimed at promoting the spirit of volunteerism and independence which forms the basis of a politically, socially and economically stable country.
By engaging the whole community, the programme seeks to help society use information wisely to avert propaganda and lies by irresponsible parties.
Meanwhile, Almain thanked Abdullah for his dedicated service and success in propelling the Information Department to a new era.
