Dutch, Kuwaiti parliamentarians agree to strengthen political and parliamentary ties

The Hague, May 26 (KUNA) -- The Dutch-Kuwaiti Parliamentary Friendship Group ended a meeting here Thursday afternoon after underlining their desire to deepen and broaden bilateral Dutch-Kuwaiti relations.
"We are the delegation of the Dutch-Kuwaiti friendship group and we always meet now and then to discuss the political and parliamentary issues between Holland and Kuwait," Kuwaiti MP Saleh Ahmad Ashoor, head of the delegation, told the Kuwait news agency, KUNA, after the meeting held at the Dutch parliament.
"It was a very good and fruitful discussion on the economic and political relations between Kuwait and Holland. We are looking forward to boosting these relations," he stressed.
Ashoor said they are also looking forward to the participation of Holland in the development projects that will take place in Kuwait.
"There was a good response from the Dutch side and we decided to follow up these meetings and to cement our cooperation," he added.
On his part, Alexander Pechtold head of the friendship group from the Dutch side, told KUNA that "today we had a very important meeting with the colleagues from the Kuwaiti Parliament. We had discussion on several topics, the Arab region, about our economies".
He noted that Netherlands and Kuwait are small countries in a broader region adding that I think it was a very informative discussion over lunch.
"The most important topic in today's discussion was the both our economies because the world is changing and we both have young generation who are also to have work and a future and we discussed that as parliamentarians, said Pechtold who is the leader of the Dutch political party called 'D 66'.
He said they also discussed the stability of the broader Arab region adding that "it was good for us here in the Netherlands to hear and listen to t he experiences and views in these matters from our colleagues in Kuwait".
Ashoor handed an invitation to Pechtold from the speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly Jassem Al-Kharafi to the speaker of the Dutch parliament Gerdi Verbeet and to the Dutch-Kuwaiti friendship group to visit Kuwait.
A five-member delegation from Kuwait's National Assembly arrived here Wednesday on a 2-day visit to hold discussions with the Dutch parliamentarians and other Dutch officials aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
They are to meet Dutch foreign ministry officials later Thursday.
The Kuwaiti delegation includes MPs Dulaihi Saad Al-Hajri, Shuaib Shabab Almuwazri, Hussein Mazid al-Dehani and Ghanim Ali Almia.
Kuwait's ambassador to the Netherlands Hafeez Mohammad Al-Ajmi also attended the meeting.
