SINGAPORE TREATMENT FOR MOVIE SUPERSTAR RAJINIKANTH
NEW DELHI, May 27 (Bernama) -- After spending weeks in a local hospital, South Indian superstar Rajinikanth is expected to be flown to Singapore on Friday night for further treatment, reported Indian daily.
The popular 61-year-old actor has been undergoing treatment for
gastroenteritis and pneumonia at Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Chennai.
Quoting close family sources, the Asian Age newspaper Friday front-paged that Rajinikanth was booked as "wheelchair passenger" on a Singapore Airlines flight, and would be travelling under his real name, Shivaji Rao.
His wife Latha and daughter Aishwarya were expected to accompany the ailing actor, added the daily.
Rajinikanth had been suffering from severe ill-health over the last few weeks and was hospitalised on April 29, the day when shooting of his latest movie "Rana" began.
Bollywood model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone is the heroine in the movie, which is now temporarily shelved.
Over the last three decades, Rajinikanth dominated the Tamil cine world, with over 170 mega movies that raked in billions of rupees in box office collections.
The bus driver-turned-actor's stylish acting captured millions of fans' hearts from Malaysia to Japan, making him one of the highest-paid actors in India.
