DOMESTIC MAID ISSUE: MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA TO SIGN MoU ON MONDAY
KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- The signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between Malaysia and Indonesia this Monday (May 30) is expected to end the maid freeze which has been going on for almost two years.
Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam, in a statement issued here Friday, said he would represent Malaysia at the MoU signing to be held at 6.30pm at the Gedung Sate Bandung in Indonesia.
Indonesian is expected to be represented by its Manpower and Transmigration Minister, Muhaimin Iskandar.
Subramaniam hoped that the signing of the MoU would help to reduce the shortage of house maids in the country.
In June 2009, Jakarta imposed a freeze on the sending of maids to Malaysia following reports on cases of abuse by employers, as well as the lack of benefits, like minimum monthly salary and day off for maids.
