MALAYSIANS IN TYPHOON-HIT MISSOURI ARE SAFE

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- No injury or death involving Malaysians
has been reported in the typhoon that swept through the town of Joplin,
Missouri, United States of America, last Sunday.

Foreign Ministry secretary-general, Renuga Govindasamy, said the matter was
conveyed by the Malaysian Consulate General in New York.

"The Malaysian Embassy in Washington D.C and the Malaysian Consulate General
in New York are always prepared to provide assistance to Malaysian citizens
affected by the incident.

"They also liaise with federal and state authorities to obtain latest
information on the situation in Missouri," he said in a statement Friday.

He said the government had also instructed the Malaysian Embassy in
Washington D.C and the Malaysian Consulate General in New York to search and
register Malaysian citizens and students there to ensure they were safe.

The Sunday's typhoon had claimed the lives of 89 people, as well as left a
trail of mass destruction across the city.
