Iran's Salehi meets a number of counterparts in Bali

TEHRAN, May 28 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held separate talks with a number of his counterparts on the sidelines of the 16th foreign ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which opened in Bali, Indonesia, on Monday and closed on Friday.

During his meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Mahmud Zebari, Salehi expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Iran and Iraq, adding that the two countries should make every effort to increase their cooperation in various fields, particularly in political, economic, and cultural areas.

Zebari described Tehran-Baghdad relations as “brotherly” and “developing” and announced that he will pay a visit to Iran in the near future.

Salehi and Zebari also exchanged views on the developments unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa.

In his meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun, the Iranian foreign minister stated that the two countries can share their economic and educational expertise with each other.

He also extended an invitation to Pak to pay a visit to Iran.

Pak expressed pleasure at the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran will assume the presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2012.

He added that Pyongyang is eager to increase economic cooperation with Iran.

Pak also briefed Salehi on the latest political events in North Korea and the country’s state of relations with the neighboring countries, including South Korea.

Salehi also held separate meetings with Indonesian Foreign Minister Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa, Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar, Bruneian Foreign Minister Mohamed Bolkiah, and Ricardo Armando Patino Aroca, the Ecuadorian minister of foreign relations, foreign trade, and integration.

In addition, Salehi held separate talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun and Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

During his meeting with Salehi, Zhai said that Iran is a strategic partner for China, adding that Beijing is keen to increase the volume of trade with Iran.

Mekdad and Salehi also explored ways to expand cooperation between Tehran and Damascus. They also criticized certain Western countries for the double-standard approaches that they have adopted toward the developments occurring in the Arab world.
