Iran Denies N. Talks with N. Korea

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi dismissed the media reports that he had talked about nuclear cooperation with Pyongyang during a recent meeting with his North Korean counterpart Pak Ui-chun.
Salehi said on Friday that he had met with Pak on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) conference in Bali, Indonesia, on Thursday, but denied that he and his North Korean counterpart had discussed exchange of nuclear weapon materials and missile technology.

"We just talked about economic cooperation," Salehi said.

An alleged report had earlier this month claimed that North Korea appeared to have been exchanging ballistic missile technology and expertise with Iran in violation of Security Council sanctions.

The report was submitted to the Security Council by a UN Panel of Experts, a group that monitors compliance with UN sanctions imposed on Pyongyang after it conducted nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009.

After the submission of the report, China also played down the report that pointed to it as a trans-shipment point for banned missile technology and other illicit trade between North Korea and Iran.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the document did not have the authority of the Security Council and that Beijing scrupulously upheld punitive UN measures against North Korea.
