Canadian Politician Deplores West's Double-Standard Policy on Human Rights

TEHRAN (FNA)- The candidate of Canada's Ottawa-Vanier Green Party for the 2011 federal elections criticized his country for ignoring human rights, and blasted the West for its biased and double-standard attitude towards the issue of human rights.
"We are witnessing massive violation of the rights of the native Indians in Canada, but no one cares about it," Akbar Manoussi said in a round table held here at the FNA office on Monday.
"Unfortunately, only the human rights conditions in countries such as Iran comes under the spotlight in the western media and governments," Manoussi stated.
He reminded the West's support for the ousted Egyptian dictator, Hosni Mubarak, as well as the autocratic rulers of Bahrain and its ignorance of their suppressive actions against popular protests, and stressed that the approach signifies West's double-standard policies.
"We are clearly witnessing the double-standard attitude of the western circles and media on human rights conditions in these countries," Manoussi said in the meeting also attended by Paul Maillet, a retired Air Force Colonel and candidate for Ottawa Orleans.
Last year, The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the Canadian officials to account for the violation of human rights and severe suppression of demonstrators who gathered to protest at the G-20 summit in their country.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran again expresses its concerns over the violation of human rights in Canada," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said last July,
He further described respect for human rights as a "global commitment", and reiterated that "countries should not resort to political justification to escape its implementation".
