Primary school level literacy for another 75,000 people

(KPL) Some 75,500 people aged 15 and above completed their primary school education, albeit through intensive training and 43 districts across the country were declared literate in 2007, said Minister of Education, Mr Somkoth Mangnormek in his press release on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Illiteracy.
The Ministry of Education is planning to get 102,000 people aged 15 and over to complete the primary education and also to get 55,000 people aged between 15 and 40 to attain this level of formal schooling. This ministry is also doing its best to increase the school enrolment rate of youths aged 15 and above in Laos to 78 per cent for the 2008 academic year.
“To achieve the plan, I would like to ask the relevant authorities to pay more attention to education, so that there is a need to mobilise relevant organisations to create conditions that are conducive for both students and teachers to operate in,” said Mr. Somkoth.
The Minister also urged the education executives and teachers across the country to continue to co-operate with relevant authorities and mass organisations to promote education, to eradicate illiteracy and to improve education.
