UNITY IN DIVERSITY STRONG PLATFORM FOR MALAYSIA'S CONTINUED PROGRESS, SAYS DPM
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The unity in diversity held dear by Malaysians provides a strong platform for the continued progress of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in his message in conjunction with Tadau Keaamatan and Hari Gawai, here Monday.
He said Tadau Keaamatan and Hari Gawai, the harvest festivals celebrated this week by the KadazanDusun and Dayak communities in East Malaysia states of Sabah and Sarawak respectively, reflected the multi-racial harmony that had existed in the country all this while.
"All races in Malaysia whether Malays, Chinese, Indians, Iban, Kadazan, Duzun, Dayak and other ethnic groups are free to practice their religions, languages and traditions in peace and harmony," he said.
Muhyidin said whether a group was a majority or minority never posed an obstacle for the various communities to treasure the rich cultural traditions of each other and practice their religious beliefs as guaranteed by the Constitution.
As such, in conjunction with the two festivals, Muhyiddin invited all Malaysians to continue to respect each other's religious beliefs and cultures and build resilient unity.
"Godwilling, this will lead us to enjoy continued progress and prosperity," he said while also extending the best wishes from his family to the KadazanDusun and Dayak communities.
