Iran Denounces NATO's Air Raids on Afghan Civilians

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denounced the air attacks waged by the NATO forces against civilians in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
"The growth of extremism, the return of violence, increase in production of drugs and massacre of civilians are the achievements of NATO's continued presence in the country," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said on Tuesday.

"Massacre of the defenseless Afghan citizens by those who have invaded the country under the pretext of establishing security has strengthened the resolve of the Afghan people to pursue their demand for the withdrawal of these forces from their country," he added.

Mehman-Parast expressed the hope that with the withdrawal of the foreign forces and full establishment of the Afghan rule over the country, the Afghan people, specially those in the Helmand province, would be able to witness security and stability.

Fourteen civilians including five women and seven children were killed and six others, including three children, were wounded on Sunday in an air attack of the NATO forces in Helmand province.

According to the press office of Helmand, the air attack occurred in Bazaar Salam area, Nawzad district after the bases of American forces came under attack by armed militants in Serakola area.

Security Headquarter of Helmand seriously condemned the air bombardment of the foreign forces, and asked foreign forces to abstain attacks without the coordination of the Afghan forces. A delegation has been dispatched by the Helmand province for assessment of the event.

All regional countries, specially Iran, have always asked for a regional approach to solve the problems in Afghanistan, and called on the Kabul government to pave the way for the withdrawal of the alien forces from the country.
